Turning Point

Did you know social workers provide
the majority of counselling and therapy
services in Ontario? There are clear
reasons why this is the case:
Social workers:
We have a unique understanding of the relationship between people and their environment and how social stressors impact physical and mental health.
Our Team:
We use a client-centred approach and value the importance of relationship building, and honouring client's needs.
insurance coverage:
Registered social workers are typically covered by employee insurance plans. We will provide receipts for insurance and tax purposes.
College of social workers:
Social Workers are accountable to their College and the College's Code of Ethics. All counselling sessions are confidential.

Collective Experience

Turning Point is a collective of seasoned clinical social workers, brought together by their shared vision and passion for providing the highest level of care to their clients. Standing alone as the only counselling practice in Southern Georgian Bay that is solely social work driven, this is a unique asset.

The therapists at Turning Point are distinguished for their education, skill set and experience. Cumulatively, they have over 80 years in practice. As registered social workers, they are devoted to their craft and are in service of the core values of social work: dignity and worth of all people, the importance of human relationships, integrity, and competence.

Geoff Ayton

In family therapy Geoff believes that all members have a role in the construction of problems in the family unit, and supports them in understanding and responding to these relationship issues.

Heather Morris

Heather's professional focus includes treating adults, families and seniors experiencing anxiety, depression, or behavioural changes as a result of the challenges of aging, family transitions and the prospect of end of life issues.

Gillian Harris-Sopinka

Gillian has practiced for the past fifteen years as a clinical social worker in the area of mental health. She has been fortunate to work in a variety of different health care settings and with adults, families, children and youth.

catherine Cilia

Eric King

Eric has a career-long passion about his work with adolescents, young adults and their families. While every family is unique, Eric’s focus is on utilizing the strengths of family members to explore stuck patterns of communication and behavior.

Tamica Herod

Dear clients

As the situation with our community response to COVID-19 is rapidly evolving, we thought it important to update you on how we are responding. We are available to provide you with your counselling/ therapy sessions, but health and safety for us all in these challenging times are paramount.

Earlier emails from us at Turning Point have outlined our initial response to COVID-19. As this situation continues to evolve we wanted to provide you with further assurances that we are taking all available precautions to maintain a safe environment. Our collective health security rests on our joint ability to act with awareness and personal responsibility.

We are now at the point where the expectation for social distancing practices is clearly upon us. Therefore we are no longer providing face-to-face counselling, on-site at 88 Ontario St., with our clients at this time. This health situation is dynamic and rapidly evolving so we are unaware of how long this situation will continue.

Video conferencing is available to clients who wish to continue with their counselling or therapy. This is an effective alternative to face-to-face sessions and we are happy to facilitate this. Your therapist will contact you directly regarding this option. Please don’t hesitate to be in touch with any further questions or concerns. We are here to help.

Please continue to follow our local health unit for timely updates and useful information: simcoemuskokahealth.org/Promos/Novel-Coronavirus

Thank you for your cooperation as we navigate this together.

Yours truly,
Catherine, Geoff, Gillian, Eric, Heather and Tamica
